Tasting Notes: This Pinot Noir from the Cité de Carcassonne region offers impressive value and plenty of bright, expressive fruit. After an eight-day maceration, the wine shows lifted aromas of strawberry, red cherry, and gentle floral notes, with a hint of dried herbs and forest floor in the background. The palate is silky and fresh, with soft tannins and lively acidity that keep it light on its feet. It’s a clean, fruit-led style with subtle complexity — an easy-drinking everyday Pinot Noir that still reflects its origin and the producers’ natural-leaning philosophy.

The Producer: Pierre & Antonin was created by two friends, Pierre Caizergues and Antonin Bonnet, who both grew up in winemaking families in the Languedoc. After unexpectedly meeting in a New York wine bar in 2010, they decided to join forces with a shared aim: to show a brighter, more contemporary side to Southern French wine. Their small six-hectare estate sits near Carcassonne, where vines grow on limestone and slate soils looking toward the Pyrenees. The focus is on clarity of fruit, balance, and minimal intervention. Low-sulphur, naturally made wines and environmentally conscious packaging are central to their approach, and their thoughtful, distinctive style has already attracted attention well beyond France. They’re very much part of the new generation bringing fresh ideas and personality to the Languedoc wine scene.
