If you had told me a few years ago that I would be working in the wine industry, I never would have believed you. After opening my own clothes shop at the age of 17, sales and marketing very naturally became a part of my day to day from a young age. In 2019 I closed the shop with a view to expand my knowledge in the world of marketing. I did a few years in sales for a local merchandise company then another couple of years marketing for a local bakery and bar, which is where my love for food and drink marketing came from. I was approached by Louisa and Jamie back in September 2022 to help bring a fresh and current energy to their social media channels and of course I said yes- and this is where I am today! I have found a real love for the world of wine and after coming into the business with 0 wine knowledge, to now having my WSET level 2, I am well and truly over the moon. My go-to bottles- Champagne always! Or I am a massive advocate for the Uncommon English fizz in can.

I stumbled into the world of wine while working in an independent wine shop and bar in my gap year, and was totally wowed. Who knew wine can be made in Georgia(and likely originated there!), that the chalk soil of Champagne runs under the channel directly to the South Downs, or that orange wine isn't really anything to do with satsumas? I love that winemaking seems both a scientific and artistic practise, enjoy learning about organic and ecologically friendly practises, and that there is always more to discover. While attending university in Falmouth to study History and International Relations, I really wanted to continue my wine journey and completed my WSET level two. Then, after my studies I decided to take the dive right back into wine. Old Chapel Cellars came very highly recommended and has been an amazing opportunity. Drinking wise, I often go for a properly petroleum riesling or a big Tuscan red. Best is that the day, meal or company really calls for something different each time.

Growing up in a pub, I’ve always been surrounded by hospitality and, of course, wine. We were brought up in the French style, enjoying a small amount of wine with special meals, and my passion for wine has only grown from there. I always wanted to know more, but I was a little intimidated by the mysterious regions, endless varieties and terminology that seemed to surround the world of wine. Then, in 2020, during Covid, when we all suddenly had a little more time, I decided to start uncovering the mystery of what was actually in my glass. I was completely blown away — and humbled — by the sheer depth and breadth of the world of wine. I was hooked! While working as a waitress and chef in a small private hotel, I completed my WSET Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications. Wanting to become more involved in the wine industry, I asked Louisa if she had any suggestions. As luck would have it, they were looking to launch a hybrid wine bar — and I jumped at the chance to be a part!

And here I am, serving wine every weekend and sharing not only the wines themselves, but also the wonderful knowledge, stories and experiences that come alongside them. I hardly ever go back to the same wine twice, as discovering what the next bottle might hold is all part of the adventure and the joy. That said, I do have a special fondness for Argentina and Dragon de Vino. It’s one I’m always happy to return to — an amazing-quality wine, with a deep, luscious character that feels just perfect for the wintery Cornish weather.

I’ve known Jamie for many years, he actually supplied Shampers, our Wine Bar and Restaurant in London’s West End, when he was working with Laymont and Shaw, and the relationship continued when he formed Old Chapel Cellars. My journey in the food and wine industry has been an exciting one. Before running Shampers, I had a background in the wine trade, working in London, the Nahe Valley in Germany, Bordeaux, and Australia. We ran Shampers for 30 years so when our business closed, Jamie and Louisa offered me a position with them, and I gladly accepted. I thoroughly enjoy the "front of house" aspect of serving customers, a role I had at Shampers. It's wonderful to be involved in the world of food and drink again, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with Jamie and Louisa.

My journey into the wine industry began several years ago when I worked for Laithwaites Wine, where I developed an interest in wine and gained my first experience of the industry. After following a different career path for a while, I was delighted to return to the wine world when I joined the team at Old Chapel Cellars. I now work as the Finance & Accounts Manager, looking after the day-to-day finances and accounts for both the retail shop and wholesale business. My role is varied and busy, and I enjoy being part of a small, passionate team where I am continually learning more about wine and the business behind it.

When it comes to choosing a bottle, I am definitely more of a red wine person. Rioja and Malbec are among my favourites—particularly rich, full-bodied wines with plenty of character. When I do reach for a white, I enjoy a fresh, crisp Picpoul, especially on a sunny day. Outside work, I love running, CrossFit, travelling and spending time by the Cornish coast.
