Here at Old Chapel Cellars, we ended 2022 on a high following our first foray into the Cornwall Sustainability Awards. We were proud to be shortlisted in the ‘Most Sustainable Organisation’ category, receiving a Highly Commended ranking for our efforts to become a green leader in the wine business.

Now in their 20th year, the Cornwall Sustainability Awards are hosted by Cornwall Council and business support enterprise Tevi, and aim to celebrate organisations and individuals in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for their contribution towards sustainability, environmental growth, the circular economy and carbon neutrality.

2022 was also the year we achieved B Corp status, something we’ve been working diligently towards for some time. Being a B Corp involves continually assessing your impact on the environment, and your contribution to the local community, always striving to find ways of wielding business as a force for good.

Old Chapel Cellars became a B Corp in 2022

Spurred on by our success at the CSAs and inspired by an amazing group of fellow B Corps operating here in Cornwall (including fellow CSA award winners, Finisterre and St Eval), we’re ready to take 2023 by the horns!

Amongst other things we’ll continue to make maximum use of carbon-free transport with the help of our friends at Hoffmann Haulage for wine deliveries across Cornwall, and our trusty e-cargo bike for local missions here in Truro. We’ll also continue to champion natural vineyard management and support wine producers who put the planet and local people at the heart of their approach.

Our Charity Partner for 2023 will be iSightCornwall, and we're really looking forward to working with this inspiring local organisation They offer a wide range of support services to visually impaired people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, including social events, practical and emotional support with diagnosis, and useful benefits advice. Find out how we'll be fundraising and raising awareness about this great charity in the weeks to come.

We’re also looking forward to helping to train more of the next generation of hospitality professionals. Hospitality is a big employer here in Cornwall and, for those going into the industry, upskilling with wine knowledge can be hugely beneficial for their future career path.

Old Chapel Cellars is the home of The Cornwall Wine Centre

As the home of the Cornwall Wine Centre, we’re running a series of WSET courses throughout the year which bring together some of the best wine educators here in Cornwall. Find out more here.

We wish you a happy, healthy and sustainable 2023!
