1921 Garnacha Rioja, Las Cepas
Type: Red Wine
Grape(s): Garnacha
Wine Region: Rioja, Spain
Tasting Notes: Very intensive red, clean and brilliant. The nose is deep and fruit, with notes of wild blackberries and soft oak wood toasty. The palate is elegant, fleshy and wide. Very aromatic, rich in nuances and a long end in mouth resulting from the malolactic fermentation in barrel.
Garnacha is one of the oldest varieties of the D.O.Ca Rioja grape, unfortunately there aren't many centenarians Garnachas left. The name comes from the year 1921 when the Garnacha's vines were planted. This wine is produced from strains that only have two or three small clusters of extraordinary quality. Only 5,000 bottles made.
Suggested food and wine pairing: A slow-cooked lamb stew with aromatic herbs and root vegetables can be an excellent match. If you prefer a cheese pairing, consider serving the wine with aged Gouda or Manchego.
