Tohu Winery: the world’s first Māori-owned wine business
As the world's first Māori-owned winery, Tohu is more than a producer of fine wines—it's a community of passionate individuals dedicated to honoring their land and heritage.
Chief Winemaker Bruce Taylor, who joined Tohu in 2008, believes that wine should encapsulate a specific place and time. His approach is hands-on and respectful, aiming to let the unique characteristics of each vineyard shine through with minimal interference. Tohu's vineyards, Whenua Awa in Marlborough's Awatere Valley and Whenua Matua in Nelson's Upper Moutere, offer distinct profiles due to their varied climates and soils.
