Jean Gimonnet 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne La Guette 2008
Tasting Notes: A nose rich in ripe yellow fruit, citrus and hints of bread crust. On the palate it is pleasantly round, maintaining a marked dryness due to the natural sugar dosage. Balanced, soft and creamy with sweet butter and brioche flavours. Persistent and intense finish, with a nice minerality. Pungent and acidic. 36 months on the lees. The 2008 La Guette is a cuvée from the best Premier Cru plots of the winery. 100% Chardonnay, disgorged after 13 years on the fine lees in October 2022.
Producer Info: The Gimonnet family has farmed vines in Champagne since the 18th century, with the domaine officially founded in 1935. Jean Luc Gimonnet has been passionate about vines and their terroir since his early childhood, he took over the family estate from his father in 1996.
Based in the Premier Cru village of Cuis, Jean-Luc Gimonnet works 28 hectares of vineyards across Premier Cru and Grand Cru sites, including Cramant, Chouilly, Oger, Vertus, Aÿ, and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. The estate specialises in Blanc de Blancs, with 98% Chardonnay, much of it from old vines planted over 30 years ago.
Known for long lees ageing and meticulous winemaking, Gimonnet Champagnes are fresh, mineral-driven, and refined, offering excellent balance and ageing potential across non-vintage, vintage, and special cuvées.
