Crémant de Loire, Domaine de Landreau. Loire, France
Christmas Day should always begin with bubbles around breakfast time, and this excellent fizz from Domaine de Landreau will get things off to a perfect start. We like to enjoy ours with Smoked Salmon, sourdough toast and Hollandaise sauce, setting the bar high for indulgence throughout the day!
Muscadet Sur Lie Sevre et Maine, Bretonnaire. Loire, France
Muscadet is our favourite zippy white wine to enjoy as an aperitif, though it also works well if you’re pulling out all the stops and doing seafood starters or canapes. Lemon, melon, green apple and pear flavours keep it crisp, dry and refreshing, and this classic Muscadet is sure to impress with its excellent mouthfeel and texture.
Flametree Chardonnay. Margaret River, Australia
Our pick of the best white wines for Christmas Dinner goes to this outstanding Chardonnay from Australia’s premium wine region, Margaret River. This is complex and elegant, with aromas of citrus oil, grapefruit and floral notes well supported by subtle French oak. The palate is textured yet fine, with a dry and savoury finish which will beautifully enhance your enjoyment of the classic Christmas turkey, or indeed chicken, goose, or fish.
Hoopla Cabernet Sauvignon. Napa Valley, California, USA
Another New World heavy-weight, Hoopla are known to produce some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley. Fresh aromas of plum, prune, bay, dried flowers, and aromatic hints of clove and cardamom sit above a muscular core of cedar, leather, and earth. The dense and concentrated fruit make this a rich and luxurious red wine for Christmas Dinner, which would partner well with juicy turkey but also roast beef if you’re going down an alternative route this year.
Hawksdrift Pinot Noir. Marlborough, New Zealand
As the afternoon wears on, you might find yourself craving a glass of something delicious and warming, yet also uplifting. You’ll need to stay awake a little longer to catch at least one of the Die Hard movies after all! This is the moment we like to reach for the Pinot Noir, specifically this exemplary Pinot from Marlborough’s Hawksdrift. Strawberry, cherry and raspberry flavours are followed by layers of herbs and spices. Light and fresh, it’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up!
Eirados Fine Ruby Port
Finally, as the cheeseboard beckons, our experts have selected Eirados Ruby as their port of choice this Christmas. A great value port from a 5th generation producer using traditional, sustainable methods, this is brimming with flavours of luscious cherries and strawberries and will bring the day to a close softly and sweetly.
