Organic wines feature heavily in our portfolio here at Old Chapel Cellars, and many of our Christmas favourites fall into this category. Some are uncertified but are made with organic principles in the vineyard, and others are officially labelled ‘organic’. We’ve selected some of the best organic wines for Christmas, curating this great value case to see you through the festive season.

As a B Corp – and the first wine merchant in the UK to achieve this accolade – we take sustainability seriously. Sustainability in the wine business is complex and ever evolving, but an organic approach to growing grapes is certainly an important element.

Old Chapel Cellars became the first wine merchant in the UK to achieve B Corp status in 2022

We believe that working to organic methods in the vineyard has a positive impact, both on the wine itself and on the environment. The defining factor is biodiversity; eradicating harsh chemicals in wine growing means that vineyards become attractive habitats for all sorts of flora and fauna, enriching the ‘terroir’ and hence the wine itself!

Treat yourself to a case of organic wines for Christmas and enjoy these brilliant finds from an award-winning indie merchant!

An organic mixed case of Christmas wine

To kick off: Terre dei Buth Prosecco Frizzante (Veneto)

As soon as the family gather, we’ll be popping a few bottles of this! An organically certified Prosecco, Terre dei Buth’s Frizzante is fresh and delicate. Perfect for post-breakfast drinks (it’s allowed on Christmas Day!) or to go with party food throughout the holiday season.

Afternoon pick-me up: Sensale Grillo (Sicily)

Reach into the fridge for this minerally, zingy white from the volcanic soils of Sicily and you won’t be disappointed. If the endless socialising of the season leaves you flagging, this wine is your friend.

The secret weapon: Domaine de Grandpre Minotaure Rose (Provence)

Rosé is for summer, right? Wrong! It’s a classic match with salmon, smoked or otherwise, and a delicate Provençal pink is the perfect thing to reawaken a jaded palate after all that over-indulgence.

A serious white for food-lovers: La Loyane Cotes du Rhone Blanc (Rhone)

We’ve got this white Rhone lined up for Christmas Eve. A blend of Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Rousanne which is aged on its lees, this would go seriously well with Cornish crab or lobster.

The red to reach for when friends pop round: Ormanni Chianti DOCG (Tuscany)

This organic chianti exudes red fruit aromas such as cherries and strawberries. This supremely versatile wine goes with so much food, including your signature ‘leftover surprise’!

A red for the main event: Hilanda Monastrell (Jumilla)

This organically certified red from 100-year-old vineyards is medium to full bodied. Lingering spice and 4 months in oak give it weight, nicely tempered by flowery notes and bright red fruit. Sure to impress your guests on Christmas Day!
