2018 Domaine Cacheux Bourgogne Pinot Noir Les Champs D'Argent
Type: Red Wine Grape(s): Pinot Noir Wine Region: Burgundy, France
Domaine René Cacheux is tiny - just 3.26 hectares - but they have some very fine vineyards including 1 hectare of Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots and 0.18 hectares of Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaumonts. Their single site Bourgogne from Les Champs d’Argent is also worth a special mention.
Gerald Cacheux is the fourth generation and his wines are hand crafted from old vines with judicious use of new oak. They have a beautiful purity. This is a domain to watch, although if you stop and look too long you will miss out!
2018 was a hot vintage, beaten only in recent times by the 2003s. However, many domaines have since learnt how to manage hot vintages and have been able to make ripe but well balanced wines. On the whole the Pinots are full, voluptuous and incredibly easy to drink. Maybe not wines to lay down for extended ageing but although they are tasting very well now the Domaines who managed their acidities have produced wines which will also age well in the medium term.
Suggested food and wine pairing:Game birds, casseroles.
