Producer Profile:  Torres is a family owned company and one of Spain’s largest wine & brandy producers and definitely one of the most famous names in the Spanish wine industry.  Based in Penedes in North East Spain they have wineries all over Spain, such as Rioja & Priorat in addition to wineries in Chile & USA.  Torres has always been an innovative company and has been responsible for pushing the Spanish wine industry forward – something that is especially amazing when you consider there focus has not been Rioja wine but instead they have been based in Penedes.

Torres leapt to international stardom in 1979 when the 1970 Torres Gran Coronas Black Label (now known as Torres Mas la Plana) won an international award as being the top Cabernet Sauvignon, beating off wines such as Chateau Latour & Chateau Haut-Brion.

This is not the only prestigious international award that Torres has received.  In 1997 the Torres 20 Brandy was voted as the best brandy in the world in a blind tasting of brandies & cognacs organised by the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Miguel A Torres was named “Decanter Man of the Year” in 2002 and Torres was named “Best European Winery” by Wine Spectator magazine in 2006.
