Malhadinha Nova Tinto 2008, Alentejo

Jamie says: "Malhadinha Nova must be the Alentejo's leading producers and this is the wine that made their name.  The owners view this wine as a modern day Barca Velha - a beacon that shows the rest of the world how good Portuguese wine can be.  If you are interested in scores, then Malhadinha 2008 was awarded 94 from Wine Enthusiast and 92 from Robert Parker.  It is elegant, rich, incredibly complex and approachable now but will age well for the next 5 years or so. Find out how far Portugal, and the Alentejo in particular, has come in the last few years.  Hand harvested & trodden by foot in the traditional Portuguese method and then aged in French oak for 16 months.  Very limited production."
